
Located on the corner of Shortland and O'Connell Streets in central Auckland, O'Connell St Bistro is an intimate dining room of fourteen tables, created in the theme of a modern European back street bistro, with a cosy and well stocked bar.
In addition there is a separate private dining room adjacent to the Bistro, the Corner Room, which can accommodate up to twenty six people.
In its sixteen years of operation, it has been recommended by many publications & has consistently been a finalist in the Cuisine NZ Restaurant of the Year Awards, winning "Best Wine Experience" two years running in the 2007 and 2008 awards. Most recently the Bistro has been awarded "Metro Restaurant of the Year Best Smart Dining 2013".
The Bistro's proprietor, Chris Upton (pictured), trained in the UK, and also spent four years on board QE2 before emigrating to New Zealand.
His Head Chef Alex Strobach was born in Germany and has worked around Europe in many prestigious establishments including Gleneagles Hotel, Scotland before moving to New Zealand where he was Sous Chef at the French Café before joining the team at the Bistro in 2012.
O'Connell Street Bistro is open for lunch Monday to Friday 11.30am to 3pm, and for dinner Monday to Saturday from 5.30pm, with continuous bar service throughout the day.
